RAM stands for Random Access Memory is usually referred to as the short-term memory. Memory or RAM is a computer hardware device that serves as a temporary data storage. Memory works by storing and supplying the necessary data required by the processor quickly to be processed into information.
--> To be more easily understood as an example, when you open an app such as open microsoft or mozilla firefox browser then the processor will open a program or application from the hard drive and then load it into memory or RAM. that's approximately a simple understanding of the function of memory or RAM.
when you turn on the computer, the first component of the work is the Processor. Processor serves as a data processor and request data from a data warehouse (storage), the Hard Disk (HDD). It means that the data is sent from the Hard Disk after a request from the processor.

But in practice this is difficult because of differences in technology between the Processor and Hard Disk. Processor itself is a pure digital components, and will process the data very quickly (the highest bandwidth current P4 6.4 GB / s with 800MHz FSB). While most of the Hard Disk is a mechanical technology that is certainly quite slow compared to digital (Bandwidth or Transfer Rate Serial ATA HDD range from 150 MB / s). Processor theoretical data rates ranging from 46x faster than HDD. That is, if the processor waiting for data from HDD supply will occur "Bottle-Neck" very severe.

So to overcome this, the necessary devices Main Memory (Primary Memory) or called RAM. RAM Processor serves to assist in the provision of data "super fast" is needed. RAM works just like a Digital HDD, RAM because all components are already using digital technology. With RAM, the processor does not need to wait for the shipment data from the HDD. Currently has a bandwidth of DDR2 RAM 3.2 GB / s (PC400), so as not to disturb the current supply Motherboard Dual Channel technology which can double the bandwidth to 2x zoom to 128-bit architecture. That means, 2 pieces of DDR2 in Dual Channel mode can supply the data to the appropriate number of Processor (3.2 GB / sx Dual Channel = 6.4 GB / s).So the more RAM the faster the computer work.
